To the new website for ‘The Peace Keeper’s Force’!!

It’s spiffy, clean, and well organized with plenty of easy to update features. Chances are the first wave of you will be the readers who check in on Friday and found a link to the new site! The next round of you lot should come in on soon, when I update the DNS to redirect over here!

If you care to, you can re-bookmark the page at peacekeepersforce.com, but I’m not sure if you REALLY have to. If you notice a slight hiccup when you try to load the page that’s probably the redirect. So if you want to lose that change the book mark. If you don’t give a crap, well…you’ll be fine…I think.

I’ll announce it if I find out otherwise.

So! The new site! Pretty sweet, eh? I got a pretty, generic, template and tweaked it a tad, but I hope that come winter break I’ll have some time to really sit down and play with it!

I have big ideas for this little place people. BIG ideas.

You’ll notice that the nice ‘image-y’ links are gone from the top, that’s becasue I felt that the page was cleaner looking without them. However, the old ‘internal’ navigation links are still the pretty pictures you’ve come to know and love.

I’ve transfered most of the old content over here. I’m leaving Book one where it’s at though, I’ve updated all the links.

I’m thinking in a week or two I’ll delete everything past Book Two Prologue from that old site and just throw up a ‘we’ve moved’ image. That way the old site will house all Book One, and none of Book Two. I havent decided yet though.

The only reason I’m not bringing Book One over here is becasue of the fact that I’d have to change the file names of over 300 comics. And it was a big enough pain in the ass to do it to eighty something.

I’ll also be offering ZIPS of Book One again soon, since I have my own (unlimited) site I can do that sort of thing!!

It looks to me that thepkf.com now redirects here…with narry a lag either.

We had some down time Saturday morning, but that was really more due to the fact I had to go to sleep rather than the site acting up.

So welcome again.

I won’t know for sure how complete the transfer was until Monday when the bulk of you guys wander in, but it looks like I’m in good shape.

I’m working on some new pictures for the cast pages…but I’m taking my sweet time with em…expect to hear more about them in the coming weeks.

After watching my stats rise and rise today I’m happy to report that almost all of you manged to make the move.

Also, as I haven’t heard from anyone yet, I’m assuming that the site functions correctly. I tested it in a few differenct browsers and the only ones that had issues were browsers I never even heard of. (I used this neat site to take pictures of my site in dozens of different browers) So things look good.

It also looks like my auto update thingy works good. So…yeah…

Just letting everyone know things are moving nicely.

I’ll have a proper post on Wednesday.

There are five new characters, all Airosian, but four of them are mixed with something else. Can you guess what?

If you guess correctly you get a cookie!

Seriously though, I’m really very happy with this comic. It has extras in the background and everything…which is something I rarely do. What do you all think?

The five Airosians have names that will be revealed later in the story arc, but I’m very happy with their designs…they really fit, don’t they? The importance of these characters is minor, but they add a great deal to the story…so I’m happy they’re here.

And yes, Chris is having a great deal of fun today.

Also, I’m sorry I didn’t update the voter gift last Thursday, what with the new site going live I kind of forgot about it. But on Thursday you’ll get a new incentive, just like you’re supposed to.

Sorry again to anyone who really wanted a sneak peak…I didn’t realize I had forgotten until last night and by then it was too late.

Anyhow, Check in on FRIDAY for a big announcement…about the OTHER comic. Yes…it’s starting.

EDIT: Ok, Even more messing was done. Now you can search the page. I also divided the blog, right border and left border a little and I put a table around them…I think it looks good. But I’m not sure if it’ll slow down the site any. I didn’t notice much of a slow down (and I was doing a dozen things at once) so I’m not going to stress it. But holler if you think it’s point less. I tried searching some stuff and it was a little obtuse, so I’ll be playing with that…but you all may find it useful. Let me know. /EDIT

I just finished messing with a shit-load of backend site stuff…godbless insomnia…now every page (comic/blog/miscellaneous) will display some kind of unique name…unlike those stupid little numbers that mean nothing to anyone but the computer.

HOWEVER I didn’t change all the link names…I tested everything and it looks like it still recognizes everything correctly (ie: /tom-thompson still responds to /13?) so it doesn’t look like it @#$%ing matters in the grand scheme of things.

I may change them later…but for now everything is how I’d like it…

There’s some other crap to mention, but it can wait.

Also, I put a proper skyscraper ad up for Hunter in the left devision so it now shows up on every page…the end game for this plan is to use it for adspace for OTHER people…but until I garner a few more readers I’m not going to try and sell ad space…so rather than let it go to waste I’m using it for my own means.

Just some stuff to talk about today, first of all, new character!

I’m still tweaking his design…I know that’s not a good thing to do post-intro, but let’s be honest…I rarely think in terms of art…even after doing this comic for so long. I still think of everything about their personalities and life…THEN their appearence.

That said, nothing too major will change about him, I’m thinking hair cut. Haha.

Anyhow, on the site side of things I’ve found a few plugins that I’ve implimented. Some stuff you won’t notice some you will. See the last post for more details on minor stuff.

But I did find an interesting little plugin that lets me edit the site without you guys seeing it! So now I can play with all the crap I want without it demolishing the site! GO ME! So now I won’t have to confine my messings to weekends to avoid bothering you guys! Yay.

Heh.

ALSO! I updated the links page with a new comic I stumbled across. I usually don’t plug unless I’m advertising there, but Steal This Comic is some good stuff. Go check him out. It’s a joke comic about a guy and a talking dog. But the dog denies he can talk…which is always fun.

That’s it. I can’t really think of anything else, but for the mostpart everything works great.

This blog is a wee-bit late. Sorry about that.

But I kind of spaced that today is one of my favorite Chris moments…I don’t know why I decided that he should be singing, but it really kind of fits his character.

There’s a bit more mind @#$% this week. He’s so much fun to write.

Finally, I’ve discontinued the whole ‘vote for a sneak peak’ thing. I kept forgeting about it and it seems I (and two other people…maybe) am the only one who’s actually voting.

Which is oddly about how it was before. XD

So @#$% it. I’ll think of something else to do soon.

Any ideas? Nothing too complicated. But something neat you’d like to see.

It was funny, sometimes I mull over names for days. Especially for secondary characters like the Airosian-Clique. But as I was inking them it just clicked. All of them just came to me and they were great.

By the by…Bo’Dran is my favorite of the group…he’s just a big goof ball and is a blast to write.

The Airosians serve an important role in this story arc. Beside from being Tom’s first incounter with Airosians outside of a controlled enviroment (Like the ZPF) they kind of show the way that Airosians born on Zictin interact with others.

Some action is coming up, not a whole lot, I DO want this arc to wrap up soon. It picks up really quick. Fun stuff is a foot.

Anyhow, not much to report. I started work on those new profile images, which are turning out frickin’ sweet. So look for that soon…probably AFTER this arc. I’ll use them to replenish my buffer…which is suffering…But when this semester ends all will be well. Yay!

So I dinked around with the backed of the site…I had originally decided to hold off on updating for a while…but then I found a work around to and issue I was having that you all probably didn’t even notice.

When ever I wanted the comic to display two pages on the same update I HAD to combine the two pages into one page in Photoshop…which was easier enough…but it meant I had to save, and resave, each ‘doubled’ page four times…why? I’ve gotten into saving a ‘highrez’ version of each comic…just in case there’s ever a call for a book (I know, I know. I’m entitled to a dream or two, right? haha). So it was a HUGE pain in my ass.

Which brings me to my little not to Internet Explorer users. Anyone on IE probably sees the top comic slightly over to the right…due to that glaring red ‘X’ beside it. I’m not sure why by the script I’m using to display doubled-size comics forces two red ‘can’t find image’ Xs’. One after each comic posted.

Why?

Anyone on FireFox, you just see a second ‘title’ at the bottom of the second comic…again…I don’t know why. But I’m willing to bet it’s related and I’m working on it.

Now that I’ve gotten the unpleasantness of the ‘broken’ things out of the way lets talk about what WORKS!! Which is, thank the gods, most of the changes I’ve implemented.

First you all probably noticed the change in color in the side bars…I actually have other plans for over there but until I work somethings out I just decided to settle with a nice, new, color. I’ll play with it some in the next few weeks, but until I work out my plans the green will just have to suffice, eh?

ALSO! Proper navigation! ::does a little jig::

You have NO idea how much I hated the old navigation. It was so basic and confusing as far as I was concerned. This is much nicer!

We’ve got familiar arrows and double arrows pointing you towards the comics. Which is much more intuitive in my book. I didn’t upload my old arrows from the last site since they looked out of place in the new ’sleek’ design, but I intend to fiddle with the site a little more to make it ‘mine’ instead of this current template-y look I’m rocking.

Like I said, most of the changes were backed stuff…But some more ‘visable’ things you can check out are:
-Title and date are now at the top-left of the comic, not bottom middle.
-I changed the weight and size of the blog text
-Re-added the search bar to the right of the blog
-Organized the blog area a little differently, it’s more ‘balanced’ as far as I’m concerned.
-Made it easier to update the top ‘notice’ area and I changed the ‘vote/stumble’ area (still trying to think of incentives.)
- I fixed the stories section, if you haven’t been over there lately it was a mess…some things wouldn’t even display for some reason. I normalized everything and fixed a whole slew of formatting problems. (To anyone who was over there recently, sorry. I didn’t even notice it was busted.)

That’s all I can think of rightnow…

It looks much better, I think. But input and suggestions to better suit your needs are always welcome. I’m planning on revamping the links page and updating the minor-character roster (probably after this arc).

Well…I’m off to try and fix the red-x thing. After I finnish some homework.

Don’t tell my professor I was slacking off and playing with the comic. Shh.
